Vertical Tasting and Horziontal Tasting

Vertical Tasting: A wine tasting that has a range of wines from different years from one estate or vineyard.

Horizontal Tasting: A wine tasting that has a selection of wines from the same vintage but from different estates or vineyards.

  1. A horizontal can also be all of the wines from one producer from a given vintage. That is a fun way to compare Terrior.
Another fun one is to do a Horizontal tasting of all one vintage, one veriatal, one region wines. ie: 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet (a single vineyard would even be more fun to see what each winemaker did with the wine.) Keep them all in the same pricepoint too so that it is a fair comparison.
